Weight Loss Tips For Men Over 50 – 3 Fantastic Tips For Permanent and Fast Weight Loss

Weight loss tips for men over 50 need to be carefully considered because there are special considerations for men of this (or any other) age. In this article, I’ll share with you three of my own personal tips that helped me to lose 50 pounds of weight myself. They should be able to help you too.

Tip 1 – Only Moderate Exercise

Men at your age should not suddenly start to do vigorous exercise. In fact, anyone who is overweight is not supposed to, according to what doctors say.

Not to worry though, because exercise is not the key to losing weight. But it can help accelerate your weight losses and make you feel better and keep away your hunger pangs so it is no bad thing.

I suggest nothing more vigorous than walking or riding a bike.

Tip 2 – Count Your Calories

Some people say that you should not count your calories. I disagree! It really helped me to count calories when I first started to lose weight.

Know what your maximum is. At your age, you probably need around 2,200 to 2,400 calories per day.

To lose a pound of weight per week, you should have a daily calorific deficit of around 500 calories so this means eating no more than 1,700 to 1,900 calories per day.

This is a rule that you must adhere to. At least, if you cheat then you know you are cheating. This rule cannot be easily bent so this is a good thing!

Tip 3 – Take It Easy And Slow

The more of a shock a weight loss effort is to you then the less likely you will be to succeed. If all the above sounds daunting to you, then just take it one step at a time.

e.g. forget the exercise to start with and just start by cutting 200 daily calories from your diet.

Erectile Dysfunction – Libido Spiced Up With Antioxidants

Although there are several causes of erectile dysfunction this condition is commonly associated with chronic diseases such as metabolic syndrome, diabetes, heart disease and others. Free radical damage and oxidative stress are pathological processes that underlie most chronic degenerative diseases. They are also largely responsible for the erectile dysfunction associated with these conditions.

Initiating and sustaining an erection depends on a number of physiological process; the most important of these being an adequate blood flow to the corpus cavernosum (the principal erectile tissue in the penis). This in turn depends on normal functioning blood vessels that supply blood to the penis and its erectile tissue.

An erection cannot be achieved without the action of nitric oxide on the blood vessels of the penis and its spongy corpus cavernosum. The erectile process is initiated by the nervous system – either through a spinal reflex (when there is direct stimulus to the penis) or by way of nerve signals from the brain. The relevant nerves, when stimulated via either pathway, release nitric oxide from their nerve endings in the penis.

However, the maintenance of an erection depends on the nitric oxide that is release from the endothelial lining of the penile blood vessels. If the blood vessels malfunction as a result of disease processes such as heart disease and diabetes the individual concerned will not be able to achieve or sustain an erection.

Endothelial function is curtailed when free radical damage and oxidative stress occurs – as it always does in these conditions.

Recent studies have found that antioxidants can reverse endothelial malfunction thereby improving blood flow to the penis. They do this by neutralizing the free radicals responsible for oxidative stress and endothelial damage in the relevant blood vessels.

Researchers have shown that antioxidant supplements can improve erectile function by 35% in the presence of poor endothelial function due to diabetes or metabolic syndrome. Sildenefil improves erectile function by 45% in these conditions while a combination of antioxidants and sildenefil acts synergistically to enhance penile blood supply by 50%.

As antioxidants are crucial in the prevention and treatment of heart disease, metabolic syndrome and diabetes, it is not surprising that they help associated conditions such as erectile dysfunction as well.

The evidence is clear that antioxidants play a vital role in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. When it comes to naturally occurring foods in the diet spices have the highest antioxidant activity of all food groups including fruit and vegetables (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition July 2006 and US Department of Agriculture 2007).

It goes without saying that if you add more spices to your diet not only will you improve your general health but you will spice up your sex life too!Say spices for libido  .they are natural libido boosters for men

Never Do these six things when you have Diabetes

The dos and don’ts with food in diabetes are many. Here are six important dos and don’ts for diabetes which have to be followed to keep healthy in this condition.

Don’t eat junk foods- Junk foods provide only calories they never contain any essential nutrients. Hence don’t eat junk foods. Instead take healthy diet which is rich in vegetables, fruits and whole grains. But watch your carbohydrate intake. Limit Sugar and fat.

Don’t Miss Vitamin B12:  Deficiency of Vitamin B12 worsens diabetic neuropathy. In diabetic neuropathy the nerve endings in skin get damaged and affect the sensation of touch  and pain in hands and feet.

The New York Times bestselling author of Eat to Live and Super Immunity and one of the country’s leading experts on preventive medicine offers a scientifically proven, practical program to prevent and reverse diabetes—without drugs. At last, a breakthrough program to combat the rising diabetes epidemic and help millions of diabetics, as well as those suffering with high blood pressure and heart disease. Dr. Joel Fuhrman, the research director of the nutritional research project of the National Health Association, shows you how to live a long, healthy, and happy life—disease free. He offers a complete health transformation, starting with a diet with a high nutrient-per-calorie ratio that can be adapted for individual needs. Dr. Fuhrman makes clear that we don’t have to “control” diabetes. Patients can choose to follow better nutritional guidelines that will control it for them, even before they have lost excess weight. The end result is a medical breakthrough—a comprehensive reversal of the disease.

Until Dr. Barnard’s scientific breakthrough, most health professionals believed that once you developed diabetes, you were stuck with it—and could anticipate one complication after another, from worsening eyesight and nerve symptoms to heart and kidney problems. But as this groundbreaking work reveals, this simply is not true. In a series of studies—the most recent funded by the National Institutes of Health—Dr. Barnard has shown that it is possible to repair insulin function and reverse type 2 diabetes. By following his scientifically proven, life-changing program, diabetics can control blood sugar three times more effectively than with the standard diet; and cut back on and in some cases eliminate medications while reducing the risk of diabetes complications. "The long overdue epic scientific breakthrough in diabetes is here…an obvious must-read for health professionals and for diabetic and potential diabetic patients." —Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., MD, preventive cardiology consultant, Cleveland Clinic "This is the approach to follow…the clinically proven way to get your blood sugar under control… and start living again."—John McDougall, MD, founder and medical director of the McDougall program "Dr. Barnard’s book is no exaggeration…The signs and symptoms of diabetes can be reversed, and he’s got the evidence to prove it."—Jennie Brand-Miller, PhD, author of The New Glucose Revolution

Don’t Smoke – Diabetes leads to complications like heart disease, stroke and circulation problems. Smoking adds to the risk of developing all of these things. In some cases, smoking can double the likelihood of these conditions, as well as doubling the chances of suffering from kidney problems and erectile dysfunction related to diabetes.

Don’t skip Meals – In diabetes the sugar level keep on fluctuating. When meals are skipped it leads to hypoglycemia or low sugar in blood. This surfaces with symptoms like sweating and shakiness.

Don’t Consume Alcohol:  Alcohol when absorbed in body affects the neurological functions. It acts as a toxin to nerves. This worsens the diabetic neuropathy. Due to alcohol the liver gets stressed. There will be a deficient intake of nutrients when a person consumes alcohol. Nutrition deficiency worsens the symptoms and health risks of diabetes

Don’t avoid fiber diet: Eat as much whole grains as possible. Include vegetables and fruits which are rich in fiber. This helps to keep the bowel movement normal and also reduce cholesterol. Diabetes accelerates aging process. The antioxidants in these green vegetables and fruits slow down aging process.

Don’t be a coach potato: Increase your physical activity. A moderate physical exercise like walking helps to control fluctuating blood level and boost blood circulation to all parts of body. Regular exercise aids weight loss and helps to keep obesity at bay.

How To Increase Your Sperm Volume

How to increase your sperm volume is a question that many men ask? The problem here is that some men find that after they ejaculate, barely any sperm comes out. This can cause worry and upset that there may be some form of medical deficiency with their genitals, which while might be the case, there is probably a more common explanation.

There are many things that can affect the sperm count in males; most can be corrected quite easily, while some can not. Hopefully by the end of this article you will understand the causes of low sperm count, and ways in which you can increase it.

A list of the more common causes would be: tight underwear, sitting for long hours, obesity, hot baths, smoking and excessive alcohol abuse, stress and constant ejaculation. Rarer causes would include malformed genital organs and infections to the prostate glands.

So now you know a short list of causes, you’re probably wondering how on earth you can help yourself. Well there are many ways; some easier than others, so let’s start to analyze the list of causes provided as to how you can help yourself.

Constricting underwear and sitting for long hours can produce unnecessary pressure on your testicles, which in turn reduces your sperm count. The obvious answer is to buy underwear that fits, and try to take a break and walk about a bit. Even if you’re in an office, you can get up and go to the toilet, or get a drink, anything that will relieve the pressure of sitting on your testicles all day.

Obesity presents the same problem. Fat layers can sag on your testicles, causing the pressure again. It can also heat up the testicles. The whole point of having the testicles outside of the body is so that they can operate in a cooler environment, as our body’s internal temperature is at 98.6 degrees. This is why taking hot baths can also decrease your sperm levels, as it raises the temperature too much for them to operate properly.

Alcohol and smoking are common culprits for the infertility of men. Pumping harmful substances into your body can cause hormonal imbalances, and can in turn cause less sperm to be created. Try cutting down on both to help increase your sperm count and prevent total infertility.

Reducing your stress levels can be a huge help. Higher stress levels are going to cause a reduction in your sex drive, which in turn is going to decrease your sperm levels when you ejaculate. There are many options for you to help cure stress, for instance, massages before sex are perfect as they help reduce stress levels while at the same time, increase your libido through physical contact.

Constant ejaculation is an obvious one. Constantly ejaculating will cause less and less sperm to come out, simply because your testicles don’t have the time to create enough. Try taking a break from it for about 2 days, and then your sperm count should have restored enough for you to see a noticeable difference.

If none of the above reasons are affecting you, then you may have a medical problem. It is important to see a doctor about it, as it may be an infection on your prostate. Don’t hesitate too long else you could become infertile permanently.

A Guide To High Testosterone Foods

If you are suffering from depression, lack of sexual appetite, or trouble with sexual functions, you may be experiencing low testosterone levels. If this is indeed the case, one way to address the issue is to try eating high testosterone food.

A testosterone diet is easy to maintain, as long as you are aware of what constitutes good foods to increase your testosterone levels. High testosterone foods contain good qualities of zinc. For this reason, some foods have been called aphrodisiacs.

The reality is, including these foods in your diet may help alleviate the symptoms of testosterone deficiency. In one trial, 22 men with low testosterone levels and sperm counts were given zinc every day for 45 to 50 days. Both testosterone levels and sperm counts rose.

It should not be surprising that one of the best high testosterone foods are oysters. Oysters have long been lauded as a powerful aphrodisiac, and recent studies are showing that the reason may be because they contain high levels of zinc. Oysters are a perfect testosterone enhancing food to add to your diet.

If you are a red meat lover, then you already are enjoying a version of high testosterone food. Red meat is also high in zinc, so keep enjoying those steaks, as they are a very good part of a testosterone diet.

Other suggestions for red meat lovers include wild game, ribs, roast, lamp and pork chops. All of these foods are convenient to purchase, and all are considered good testosterone food.

Poultry also pack a good wallop of zinc, and is an ideal inclusion in a testosterone diet.  Chicken breasts, wings and thighs are all high in zinc, and in fact, combined with red meats, poultry makes up most of the zinc intake of the average American.

Goose, turkey, and duck are also poultry that are considered high testosterone food, and are a good part of the testosterone boosting diet. Wild poultry is also a a great choice, and you shouldn't be shy about trying some quail or pheasant either.

There are also high testosterone food items that are not considered meats. Beans are an ideal part of the testosterone increasing diet with their high zinc content. Nuts are also high in zinc and are a good dietary inclusion. In the grains family, whole grains and fortified cereals are very high in zinc and therefore are good choices.

Finally, many dairy products are testosterone enhancing foods. Milk, yogurt, and cottage cheese are all high in zinc and ideal if you're looking for so called testosterone food.

In conclusion, if you are suffering from low levels of testosterone, one of the best things you can do is include high testosterone foods in your day to day life.  Focusing on ensuring that you have a good testosterone diet is a simple way to avoid problems related to low testosterone.

Herbal Remedies for Erectile Dysfunction

About 300,000 men each year are diagnosed with erectile dysfunction in the United States alone. A third of these men do not respond to the conventional treatment with drugs such as Viagra, Cialis and Levitra. A smaller percentage cannot be prescribed with drugs due to pre-existing medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and hyperthyroidism. All these men are essentially left with the option of penile devices that help them maintain erections – or, of course, they could turn to herbal remedies.

As populations within the developed world are increasingly turning to traditional medicine for overall healthcare, they have come to realize the fact that herbalism is not a “quack science.” Modern medicine is also starting to be more accepting of herbal remedies for treating erectile dysfunctions. A few studies indicate that Gingko Biloba has great potential for treating erectile dysfunction as it increases blood flow to the penis. However, this herb can be fatal if it interacts with blood thinning drugs such as Coumadin (Warfarin) or natural foods like garlic and vitamin E. The herb Aswagandha (Withania somnifera), also called Indian ginseng, has been known for centuries as a tonic for stress relief. It works by decreasing performance anxiety and aiding better circulation.

Mexican natives are known to use the plant damiana (Turnera diffusa) as a male aphrodisiac — however, the active compound in the herb is similar to cyanide and may be toxic in large doses. Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) has received some attention in the past years as an effective treatment for libido loss for its ability to help the body retain testosterone levels. One of the most popular herbal remedies to emerge that has gained considerable acceptance in recent years is Ginseng. Although the term ginseng has been used to refer to a variety of unrelated plants, many of them show remarkably similar properties and thereputic values. Among them, Chinese ginseng (Panax ginseng), Siberian ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus) and Female ginseng (Angelica sinensis or Dong Quai) show poptential as treatments for impotence.

The FDA does not approve herbal remedies, as they do not fall under their jurisdiction, and this includes remedies for erectile dysfunction. Men interested in these medications should consult their physicians or herbalists in order to determine the appropriate herb and dosage.

Testosterone Enhancer: Tribulus Terrestris Herb and Eurycoma Longifolia

Testosterone Increase Info…

A testosterone enhancer is a term used to describe products that have been shown to or are suspected to cause a testosterone increase in healthy men. There are a great many products, usually herbal, on the market that make this claim. Sometimes referred to as boosters, non-prescription testosterone enhancers are classified as dietary supplements and so are not controlled or regulated by the FDA.

The FTC (Federal Trade Commission), however, will investigate fraudulent claims and the company must be able to provide evidence to support those claims.

Eurycoma Longifolia (Longjack) is one product that is said to be a testosterone enhancer. According to one manufacturer, informal studies have shown that this product may increase free testosterone. Notice how they always say “may”. It is not just a sales trick or a way to get around the FTC.

Different herbs affect people in different ways. Prescription drugs also affect people differently. So, it is correct to say that these products “may” cause a testosterone increase, because they could, but they might not. In short, there is no guarantee.

Some manufacturers do provide a satisfaction guarantee, so you can feel somewhat safe trying their products. If they do not work for you, you can return them. If you are experiencing symptoms related to testosterone deficiency, it will probably require some trial and error on your part before you find a testosterone enhancer that works for you, the way that you want it to.

Professional athletes also use herbal products to get a testosterone increase. Tribulus Terrestris is often called a testosterone enhancer.

It has been used in China, India and Greece for hundreds of years, but more recently was evaluated by a team of Bulgarian scientists in an effort to help their Olympic team without using anabolic steroids. The team actually credits their success that year to Tribulus.

Testosterone, produced naturally by the body, is known to increase muscle strength, endurance and stamina.

The question of cost often comes up. Purchasing herbal supplements can be expensive.

Companies that seem to be selling the same product for a much lower price than their competitors may be adding chemicals to their products in order to cut costs. Chemicals are cheaper than herbs, because they can be created synthetically. Buying in bulk is not the best idea, either. Products tend to loose their efficacy sitting on a shelf.

Male Infertility and ways to test it

In medical terms the term infertility is defined as “Diminished or absent ability to conceive and bear offspring. A couple is considered to be experiencing infertility if conception has not occurred after twelve months of sexual activity without the use of contraception. Infertility can have many causes and may be related to factors in the male, female, or both. Treatments can include medications and assisted reproductive technologies.”

According to present statistics and surveys conducted by various researchers, every fifth couple experience difficulties in conceiving. The cause for this may be - altered diet, lifestyles and lifestyle related diseases. It is very important to evaluate the cause of infertility. This has to be done at early stages as chances of conception reduce as age advances. Few men hesitate to accept that they have fertility problems. But cooperation from both partners is very vital to find solution for infertility.

When couples approach doctor to evaluate causes for infertility, both husband and wife are advised to undergo some tests to rule out causes. To rule out male infertility, basic diagnostic tests are performed on samples of blood, urine and semen of husband. Through this the levels of male hormone, blood sugar, sperm count, sperm motility, semen volume, presence of infection in semen and urine etc are compared with normal recommended levels. If needed an ultra sound scan of testicles or testicular biopsy may also be recommended by specialist. These tests help doctors to evaluate the cause, diagnose the condition and recommend effective therapies or treatments.

Texts of ayurveda mention about male infertility and its effective treatment. Ayurveda acharyas recommend semen analysis to deal with fertility problems. They have mentioned the causes for unhealthy semen and its characteristics. According to principles of ayurveda the three vital forces or tridoshas (vata, pitta and kapha) have to be in normal condition to aid production of healthy semen. Vitiation of these forces can lead to decrease in sperm count and motility. They may also obstruct pathways of sperms. The tissues of male reproductive system may get degenerated quickly when there is an imbalance of doshas. The imbalances of doshas are determined through color, odor, quantity and quality of semen. Body constitution analysis along with semen analysis helps to determine the causes of infertility in individuals.

Many herbal preparations are recommended in texts of ayurveda to aid production of healthy semen. A complete rejuvenation therapy to increase the fertility of men has been described in ayurveda. A detail description about male anatomy, semen and sperms can be viewed in ayurvedic texts.

Preventing Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy through Ayurveda

Definition:

Benign prostatic hypertrophy is swelling of Prostate gland. The prostate is a walnut sized gland that is only present in men. It is located just below the bladder and top of the penis. This gland surrounds the urethra ( the tube through which urine flows from the bladder and out through the penis ).

It is a very astonishing fact to know that the condition BPH has been explained in ayurveda long back. The anatomical position of prostate gland, symptoms of BPH and its remedies are explained by Acharya Sushruta.

The anatomical position of prostate gland is described in ayurvedic classics as  follows

In Yogaratnakara it has been described as --
“ NAABHERADHASTHAATSANJAATAHA SANCHAARI YADI VAACHALAHA |
ASHTEELAAVAD GHANO GRANTHIROODHWAR MAAYATA UNNATAHA || “

Which means “ Below umbilicus (NAABHI), there is a hard gland which is little bit bulged and changes its place some times and some times stays stationary.  This gland is like “Ashteela” (A small stone used to sharpen swords). This gland when affected by vitiated vata causes a disease called “vataashteela” (or benign prostate hypertrophy)

Sushruta explains the structure , anatomical position of prostate gland and symptoms of BPH  as follows.

“SHACRANMAARGASYA BASTHESHCHA VAAYURANTARAMAASHRITAHAI
ASHTEELAAVADGHANAM GRANTHIMMOORDHVAMAAYATA MUNNATAM|| “

Which means - the place between rectum and bladder is occupied by vitiated vata it affects the easy flow of urine, stools and semen by enlarging the gland “ Ashteela”.

The prostate gland enlarges in all men as age advances. BPH is very common and affects one third of men who are over 50. A person suffering from BPH does not have the increased risk of prostate cancer.

Functions of Prostate gland

One of the main functions of the prostate is to produce a fluid, which contribute to the liquid portion of semen and this liquid allows the sperm to move freely.

The gland is divided into peripheral, transitional and central zone. The overgrowth takes place in central zone which leads to BPH.

Effects of BPH Prostate gland surrounds urethra. When prostate gland enlarges, it constricts the urethra reducing the urine flow. The emptying of bladder becomes very difficult because of this.

Causes of BPH According to present medical concepts

The actual cause of prostate enlargement is unknown.
But the causes of BPH are very well explained In ayurveda which is based on tridosha theory.

The causes of vataashteela or BPH are  explained  as follows
Causes for vataashteela according to dosha theory:
vataashteela is caused by vitiated vayu and apaana vayu ( a subcategory of Vayu)

( APAANA VAYU is located in two testicles, urinary bladder, phallus, umbilicus, thighs, groins, anus and colon.

Functions of apana vaayu are Ejaculation of semen, voiding of urine, stools, elimination of menstrual blood and expulsion of fetus. )

. The vitiation of vayu and apaana vayu is caused by

1.    Controlling the urge of urination

2.    Controlling the urge of defecation

3.    Over indulgence in sex.

4.    Consuming dry, very cold and less quantity of food

5.    Old age

6.    General weakness

7.    Indigestion

8.    Physical and mental overexertion.

Symptoms of BPH

•    Difficulty in starting to pass urine ( hesitancy ),

•    A weak stream of urine,

•    Dribbling after urinating

•    The need to strain to pass urine,

•    Incomplete emptying of bladder.

•    Difficulty to control the urination urge.

•    Having to get up several times in the night to pass urine,

•    Feeling a burning sensation when passing urine.

•    Passing urine mixed with blood (indication of infection)

Symptoms of vatashteela are described as follows.

Prostate Health - Preventing Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy and Erectile Dysfunction

Prostate health may be one of the biggest concerns of men over the age of 50. Up to one-quarter of all men over the age of 50 may develop benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) and these figures rise dramatically as men age. BPH may cause symptoms such as weak urine flow, difficulty urinating, frequent urination and may disturb the sleep because of nighttime awakenings needed to urinate. BPH may eventually contribute to erectile dysfunction (ED) making prostate health a major issue for many men.

Saw Palmetto has been used for many years to treat BPH and ensure prostate health. It is actually an approved treatment for BPH in Europe, has been well studied and is widely used in America as well. In fact, Saw Palmetto is one of the most used herbal treatments around the world.

Saw Palmetto acts by inhibiting the production of dihydrotestosterone, a male hormone that encourages growth of prostate tissue. It may work to enhance sexual functioning and may even protect against cancer of the prostate. Though high amounts of Saw Palmetto in a supplement is a key component of herbal supplementation to promote prostate health, that is not the whole story.

The prostate gland also benefits by the addition of other valuable phytosterols. Soy products including soybeans and soy oil along with other plant products such pumpkinseed provide phytonutrients are high in beta sitosterols which are thought to be protective to the prostate gland in part by opposition to testosterone mediated prostate enlargement. Prostate health is also encouraged by the inclusion of tocopherols which may have antioxidant activity similar to that of Vitamin E. Antioxidants may promote prostate health by scavenging free radicals which may help to prevent inflammation and irritation of the prostate gland and urinary tract.

Saw Palmetto Complex is a highly concentrated blend of Saw Palmetto with other natural ingredients including soy and pumpkinseed. Studies around the globe have shown that the ingredients contained in Saw Palmetto Complex are highly effective at reducing the symptoms of BPH and may help one avoid the need for more invasive, damaging traditional treatments such as surgery.

Saw Palmetto Complex contains the finest extract of saw palmetto berries with up to 95% purity of essential fatty acids and phytosterols needed to support prostate health.

Enlarged Prostate Causes

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), commonly called an enlarged prostate, is starting to affect more and more middle aged and elderly men.

The prostate gland is slightly larger than a peanut and is located snug in between the urethra and the pubic bone. As the prostate grows, the bladder has to work more in order to push urine through the newly thinned urethra. The muscles of the bladder become overworked and therefore more sensitive. This causes the person affected to have to urinate more frequently. As the prostate grows and places pressure on the already sensitive bladder, the bladder begins to lose the ability to empty itself completely.

There is not a true diagnosis for what causes benign prostatic hyperplasia. Some medical specialists have the theory that androgens, which include testosterone and hormones similar to testosterone, are the main causes of the development of an enlarged prostate. Testosterone is the most important androgen, and is also the most important chemical produced in a man's life.

The prostate works towards converting testosterone into a powerful androgen known as Dihydrotestosterone, or DHT. DHT stimulates the growth of cells inside the tissue lining of the prostate gland. This is the theory which causes the enlarged prostate. Another theory is that blood vessels deteriorate in men as they age. The end result is an abnormal flow of blood and in return, a loss of oxygen. This also results in an enlarged prostate.

The prostatic hyperplasia is diagnosed in three ways: a rectal exam, blood tests, and an ultrasound. A rectal exam is always tried first, but the doctor may or may not be able to tell if the prostate is inflamed. The doctor might also require a urine sample to determine if there is an infection present that has caused any urinary discomfort.

The chance of prostate cancer is also considered an option and must be determined before an enlarged prostate can be diagnosed. In order to determine this, the doctor will order an ultrasound of the prostate and urinary tract. The blood tests are able to pick up on abnormally high levels of prostate antigens.

Having your enlarged prostate diagnosed in the early stages is vital for preventing any permanent damage. The worst case scenario is urinary retention. As mentioned earlier, if you let the problems persist, your bladder could eventually stop contracting allowing urine to flow. The choices for treatment are medicine or a surgical procedure.

The doctor will probably recommend medicine first, unless your condition is so severe that a surgical procedure is the necessary first step. If you are experiencing any of the signs mentioned for an enlarged prostate, make sure that you make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible. This is not a condition that can be put off for a later date.

All men experience erectile dysfunction at one or the other time when they are sexual active. There are many causes behind this.  The process of erection includes involvement of nerves, arteries, muscles and soft tissues.  It happens through a series of responses from these tissues for the stimulation. The Link Between Coffee and Hypertension - What is the Truth With Your High Blood Pressure?

The link between coffee and sudden rise in blood pressure is very controversial. In fact, many researches related to hypertension have been conducted to answer this mystery. This article will explain the truth on the true effect of coffee to hypertensive drinkers and whether it is a direct cause of high blood pressure.

Coffee has different effects to different people, with respect to blood pressure. It is a known truth caffeine increases blood pressure. But tolerance to coffee by regular drinkers makes the effect on blood pressure too insignificant.

But for the non-regular drinkers of coffee, this has a different picture. The caffeine in the drink causes a sudden increase in blood pressure. Thus it is not recommended to hypertensive individuals who are not avid coffee drinkers. The risks are usually higher.

The American Journal of Epidemiology (1999) reported a research that reveals that caffeine consumption is not directly related to heart disease and other cardiovascular diseases. This was observed even for individuals drinking coffee of up to six cups every day. But the sudden rise of blood pressure to certain individuals due to caffeine and its long-term effect on health was not researched yet.

Keep your caffeine intake in moderation. Drink only 2 cups of coffee a day to be on the safe side. This is equivalent to 200 milligrams of caffeine a day. Drinking decaf can also be a good option.

In the end, the effect of coffee is really variable and dependent on your situation. Ask your doctor about this and feel the effects of caffeine after drinking a cup. Your body will guide you what is best for you in this concern. As a solid advice, I always recommend to reduce intake of coffee to only two cups daily. Never drink caffeinated drink at least two hours before bed time too.

Treatment for Hypertension - 5 Tips for a Healthier Life

Hypertension affects over 60 percent of adults in the United States. Often referred to as the “silent killer,” this disease can lead to heart failure, heart attack, kidney failure and stroke. Treatment for hypertension is generally controlled by physicians with the administration of anti- hypertension medications. If you continue to require medications, you are encouraged to also modify your overall lifestyle habits.

Taking medications to treat high blood pressure doesn’t necessarily mean that you have the problem under control. On occasion, the underlying cause for elevated blood pressure is not addressed prior to prescribing medication. Hypertension can attack suddenly due to over-the-counter drugs such as arthritis or pain drugs and/or dietary supplements. It is recommended that you inform your physician of any nonprescription drugs that are currently taken. There are steps that must be followed in order to combat high blood pressure.

5 Tips For A Healthier You:
1. Develop a Weight Loss Plan

- Be sure to obtain your Body Mass Index (BMI) as well as a waist circumference.

- If you need to loose weight, do it slowly and maintain the weight loss.

2. Implement Daily Physical Activity

- It is beneficial to dedicate at least 30 minutes of physical activity into your daily lifestyle. - Incorporate everyday chores with moderate physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, etc. to achieve your goals.

3. Develop a Healthy Eating Plan

- Research and develop a restricted calorie meal plan that includes low saturated fat, total fat and cholesterol. Also include eating plans that are high in fruit, vegetables, and low- fat dairy products. - Document everything you consume in a food diary. Highlight areas that are successful or need improvement.

- If your goal is to actually loose weight, choose a plan that is low in calories.

4. Prepare Dishes that are Low in Sodium

- Eat foods that are low in salt and other forms of sodium.

- Use alternative spices, garlic and onions to add flavor to your meals.

5. Follow Approved Medication Prescription Guidelines

- Follow the lifestyle changes mentioned above in addition to medication, if it is a must in order to lower your blood pressure.

- Implement a ‘reminder’ strategy so that you will remember to take your medications as prescribed.

Even if you are taking anti- hypertension medications as a treatment for hypertension, always remember that you are also in control of the outcome. Because many of the hypertension- reduction drugs are oppressed with damaging side effects, using alternative methods to lower your blood pressure is rewardingly beneficial. Ask your physician about each prescribed drug as well as Holistic or natural remedies. Demand a healthier life by implementing a healthier lifestyle.
